Haulwex started in 2011 with two flatbed trucks, a crane operator, a customs broker, and a stubborn belief: shipping heavy things shouldn't feel heavy.
In the summer of 2011, siblings Elena and Ray Castillo were watching contractors struggle to move machinery through the Port of Houston. Elena ran cranes; Ray cleared customs paperwork. Between them they knew every reason a shipment gets stuck, and every way to prevent it.
They pooled their savings, bought two second-hand flatbeds, and promised customers two things nobody else would: a named human being responsible for your cargo, and the truth about where it is at all times. Fifteen years later that promise hasn't changed. Only the scale has.
Today Haulwex operates 180+ heavy-haul rigs, contracted vessel space on three oceans, and parcel hubs on four continents. We've delivered wind turbine blades to Patagonia, vintage motorcycles to Osaka, and more than two million everyday parcels in between.
If your cargo is delayed in customs, we tell you it's delayed in customs, with what we're doing about it.
A load that isn't rigged right doesn't leave the yard. Our crews have the authority to say no.
Every shipment has a named coordinator who answers the phone and writes your updates personally.
Checkpoint tracking isn't marketing for us. It's how we run operations internally, too.
Elena and Ray Castillo found Haulwex in Houston with two flatbed trucks and their first client: a drilling contractor with a stranded compressor.
We move a 68-tonne transformer 1,400 miles across four state lines. Permits, escorts and route survey handled fully in-house for the first time.
Contracted RO-RO vessel space opens ocean routes to Europe and South America. Ray's customs desk becomes its own department.
Customers kept asking us to ship their smaller goods too. We open parcel hubs in Secaucus, Rotterdam and Barcelona.
The tracking system our dispatchers used internally becomes public: every customer sees every scan, port call and milestone.
From bicycles to bulldozers: Haulwex passes 2.4 million completed shipments across 40+ countries, with a 99.4% on-time rate.
Certified crane operator turned chief executive. Still walks the Houston yard every Friday.
